Oxford Networks Unveils Large-Scale Data Center Expansion

Largest Data Center in Northern New England, Unique to State of Maine

Lewiston, Maine (September 17, 2014) – Oxford Networks officially opened their expanded Data Center today at their high-security location at Brunswick Landing. The over six million dollar expansion has increased the computing footprint by a total of 10,000 square feet – and has resulted in 12 new highly-skilled positions. The Data Center is now able to better serve the needs of customers across the country looking to safeguard their business critical information against cyber threats, natural disasters and utility failures.

The event included key project representatives, legislators, business and community leaders with remarks from Craig Gunderson, Oxford Networks President and CEO, Governor Paul LePage, Steve Levesque, Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority Executive Director, Joe Picoraro, PC Construction Project Executive and Mitch Davis, Bowdoin College CIO.

The Data Center is unique to the State of Maine and is the largest of its kind in Northern New England. The expanded footprint allows Oxford Networks to offer additional collocation, cloud computing, data storage & backup solutions along with disaster recovery services. Maine-based customers such as Bowdoin College, Maine Community Health Options (MCHO) and True Textiles utilize Oxford Networks offerings to help keep their data secure and will be able to further benefit from this expansion. In addition to its Maine customers, Oxford Networks provides data center services for Polar Beverages, located in Worcester, MA and Associated Grocers of New England, located in Pembroke, NH.

The decommissioned Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine was a natural choice for Oxford Networks to build their Data Center. “Our investment in our data center at Brunswick Landing has been key to our success as it is not only scalable, given the total size, but has inherent high-security features and infrastructure for a myriad of clients and market needs,” said Craig Gunderson, Oxford Networks President and CEO. “We are thrilled to be able to now offer existing and new customers expanded offerings in our unique high security data center. This facility is a great asset for Maine and will help drive economic development for the state.”

The design and construction of the expansion was a partnership with Integrated Design Group, 19 Technologies and PC Construction out of Portland and was completed in six months. The project also included $117,000 in incentives from Efficiency Maine to install a high-efficiency uninterruptible power supply system, along with six high-efficiency computer room air conditioners that take advantage of outside air during cold months to reduce energy consumption. Consistent and proper air temperature is critical to keep servers from malfunctioning. These upgrades make Oxford Networks one of the most reliable technology service providers in New England in terms of redundancy and data security.

Governor Paul LePage commented, “Oxford Networks is a perfect example of a Maine business that is constantly looking for innovative ways to meet market needs. From their initial investment in the facility and repurposing of Brunswick Landing to their constant focus on what is next in the world of data security, they are an amazing example of the type of innovative companies we want to grow in Maine.”
